Microsoft Defender for Office 365 Plan 1 is an advanced security solution specifically designed to protect organizations against advanced threats and attacks within Office 365 environments. This security service is designed to safeguard users from malicious emails, malicious attachments, and malicious links in emails, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Microsoft Teams.
With the ATP Safe Attachments feature, Microsoft Defender for Office 365 Plan 1 scans email attachments by virtually opening and testing them for malicious intent. This helps detect malware and other malicious content that may be hidden within attachments.
Additionally, Microsoft Defender for Office 365 Plan 1 identifies and blocks malicious files in SharePoint, OneDrive, and Microsoft Teams using the same approach. This prevents the spread of malicious files through these platforms and strengthens the security of the entire Office 365 environment.
With the ATP Safe Links feature, Microsoft Defender for Office 365 Plan 1 also checks URLs in email messages and Office documents, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint in Office 365 ProPlus, and Visio. This feature provides real-time, time-of-click protection against malicious links by scanning and blocking them before users click on them.
To detect spoofing, Microsoft Defender for Office 365 Plan 1 utilizes spoof intelligence. This helps identify and block email messages where someone impersonates a legitimate entity, such as a well-known company or a trusted contact.
The security solution also offers comprehensive reporting and management capabilities through the Office 365 Security & Compliance Center. This enables administrators to monitor security status, analyze security incidents, and adjust organization's security settings.
Microsoft Defender for Office 365 Plan 1 is included by default in the Microsoft 365 Business Premium subscription. Additionally, Plan 2 of Microsoft Defender for Office 365 is included in the Office 365 E5 and Microsoft 365 E5 subscriptions.
It can also be added as an add-on to the following subscriptions: Exchange Online, Microsoft 365 Business Basic and Business Standard, Office 365 E1, E3, and F3, and Microsoft 365 E3 and F3 subscriptions. This provides organizations with flexibility in choosing the right security levels for their specific needs.
The subscription for Microsoft Defender for Office 365 Plan 1 is per user, meaning the security service is assigned to individual users within the organization.
